TIXEL NON-INVASIVE SKIN REJUVENATION
This is the most advanced fractional thermo-mechanical procedure for the skin, providing anti-ageing improvements on skin tone and texture for a more youthful appearance. This procedure delivers results that are comparable to deep skin peels and intensive laser treatments, with much less downtime, less pain and faster recovery times.
Tixel® gives extraordinary results in treating a wide range of conditions. Traditionally hard to treat areas like around the eye or neck are effectively treated with this procedure. This device does not risk damage to the eyes, no protective eyewear is required and the treatment can cover the entire eyelid, right up to the lash lines.
Ablative Skin Treatment; Tixel and CO2 Laser: Similarities and Differences
The tixel device can deliver full ablative skin treatments, similar to CO2 lasers (with much less downtime) with dramatic skin tightening and rejuvenation after 1 treatment. Recovery time for fully ablative tixel treatment is 2-3 days, while CO2 recovery may take up to 2 weeks. In addition, since there is no risk of eye injury with tixel, it is possible to treat around the eyes, even very close to the eyelashes, without eye protection or risk to the eyes. CO2 lasers will require corneal shields (metal shields that go under the eyelids) should treatment be performed within the bony orbit around the eye. There will remain the possibility of eye injury from the metal shields.
Medium Ablative Skin Treatment
Biorejuvenation of the skin using topical solutions can deliver a holistic approach to anti-aging skin rejuvenation. The tixel device can be applied to the skin to open up channels for topical drug delivery deep into the skin. We can then apply patient derived PRP ( Platelet Rich Plasma) or PRF (platelet Rich Fibrin) that is rich in growth factors to accelerate healing and collagen formation. In addition other specific medications can be delivered to the skin to treat conditions such as acne, hyperpigmentation, melasma and rosacea.
Medium abrasive treatments can deliver similar results to fully ablative treatments after 3-6 treatments, with less than 24 hours recovery time. This is perfect for those that want to keep recovery time to the minimal and prefer a more gradual and less dramatic improvement in skin tone and texture.

What Areas Can be Treated:
Tixel treatment can be applied to all areas of the body including the delicate eye area, the neck, back of the hands, face, neck and chest.
How Do I Prepare For My Appointment:
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure or tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to your scheduled procedure.
- If the area of concern has hair, you will need to shave the area a dat prior to your scheduled treatment.
- If you have a history of cold sores or herpes infection, you may require preventative cream or medication following your procedure.
What Happens at My Appointment:
- We review your medical history and highlight your chief complaint
- We perform a skin diagnostic digital examination
- Your skin is cleansed and a prescription strength topical numbing cream is applied for 45 minutes.
- During the procedure you will experience a warm sensation on the skin with minimal pain and discomfort.
- A cooling serum may be applied at the conclusion of the procedure
What Are The Risks and Side Effects:
- Mild redness and swelling may occur after treatment, this is much more common with abaltive skin treatments.
- Experiencing warmth and tingling is common during and after the procedure.
- You may experience the feeling of a mild sun-burn, do not scratch or pick at your skin while healing. Avoid strenuous activity and makeup for 24 hours to avoid skin irritation.
- There may be a mild crusting and scabbing for 1-3 days, but the skin should be fully healed in 5 days.

I have been visiting the spa for the Cosmelan MD peel for melasma and hyperpigmentation (one application in the office, application at home, plus free touchup in the office, plus regular consultation). Dr. Sarumi and her team member, Latasha, has been excellent in terms of the care and follow-up. While some aspects of my melasma (specially, the "freckles" on my upper cheek) are quite stubborn and persistent, the overall tone and texture of my skin has improved greatly with only some discomfort (redness, peeling, etc.) at the beginning of the process until my skin acclimated (including, to the somewhat orange-ish hue of the new Cosmelan MD formulation). I'm going back in the Fall/Winter for a Tixel treatment given the results and my trust in this team. A definite plus if you are a person with melanin like me (I'm a medium-brown toned South Asian women close to middle age).

I first received services from Anew Skin in early 2022 as I was experiencing intense skin issues (acne, hyperpigmentation, dryness) that were exacerbated by stress and the types of sheets I slept on. I purchased a chemical peel package and after my third peel, saw *some* results. Dr. Sarumi reassessed my skin and adjusted my treatment, prescribing some of Anew Skin’s products from in-house. These products cleared my skin up within one month! Fast forward to this year—hormonal changes that come w/aging is causing some of those same skin issues to resurface so I set up a consultation w/Dr. Sarumi. I got an appointment the next day. From the first encounter that I had over the phone with Ms. Latosha I knew that this experience was going to be amazing.
Ms. Latosha was pleasant, answered all of my questions, and even navigated me to their office when I got lost— downtown DC is crazy.
The office was clean and cozy. I was given a tablet to fill out all of my medical history— super easy. The office is also Metro accessible which is a plus. I live about an hour and a half away so I decided to drive. Use Metro if you can.
Ms. Blessing, another gem — met me in the consult room and took some photos of my face. These photos were super hi- tech. I had never had a look at the skin on my face( or anywhere for that matter) before. The photos show what lies beneath our skin. You can really see how the skin looks below the surface… very cool— never had this opportunity before. Blessing performed my college infused microneedling procedure. She had an amazing bedside manner and explained the steps along the way. She checked on me periodically as the numbing medication did it’s job. She was such a pleasure to work with. She even went over and beyond to explain in great detail the steps to my at home regiment. I’m so proud of her— she really loves the work she does and it shows.
Dr. Sarumi did my consult. She was an absolute pleasure to work with. She took her time, I NEVER felt rushed. She really made me feel at ease, she didn’t attempt to sell me a bunch of unnecessary product. We reviewed the pictures that Blessing took of my face and I was in complete awe. Dr. Sarumi was able to identify almost instantly what I needed to do to achieve my skin goals. That’s another thing, she REALLY cares about what it was that mattered to me. Most derms that I’ve seen in the past have the agenda of pushing product— with Dr. Sarumi this was not the case.

Came here at the end of August for the Cosmelan Peel and couldn’t be happier! The service was superb! I came to my appointment a few minutes early and yet they were there to help me right away. My consultation with Dr. Sarumi was beyond professional and she very was friendly as well as straightforward. We talked about what skincare goal I was looking to achieve, the treatment I was getting, and the realistic expectations of the treatment. I was then ushered into the actual spa room to begin treatment and both Ms. Blessing and the receptionist (apologies but her name escapes me!) were helpful, knowledgeable, and professional the entire time. I have stubborn acne and even more stubborn acne scars, but the treatment I received here has been phenomenal!!! I tend to frequent spas and estheticians’ offices so I’m not new to them, but this one has been the best one I’ve been to so far hands down. Would highly recommend!!!!
