Deoxycholic acid destroys the walls of fat cells that it comes in contact with. Kybella contains deoxycholic acid and is FDA approved for the reduction of the small pocket of fat cells under your chin. The destroyed fat cells turns into waste that is then cleared away by your lymphatic system and removed from your body. The effects of fat burning injections takes a few weeks and more than 1 session may be required.
What is deoxycholic acid?
Deoxycholic acid occurs naturally in your body. It is a bile salt that helps you digest fat. The synthetic version is used for fat burning injections.
What areas can be treated?
Small fat pockets are suitable for treatment. Such as under the chin, bra fat and lower abdomen. People with loose skin are not good candidates for treatment. This is because loose sagging skin will be more pronounced following treatment.
What happens during my appointment?
Your skin is cleansed with antiseptic solution. Then, the area to be treated as well as the injection sites are marked. This ensures even distribution across the treated area. Local anesthetic is applied to the injection sites. The treated area is then iced to reduce swelling.
What are the side effects?
You can expect burning, soreness and bruising at the site of injection. There can also be swelling which may be significant. The discomfort may last for a few days. Swelling typically lasts 1-3 days, but in some circumstances can last weeks. You may also be numb around the area of injection for a few hours to a day, in some instances you may have altered sensation for up to 2 weeks.
When can I expect results:
The effects of injection are visible between 4- 6 weeks.
Are the results Permanent?
Yes. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they will not come back. It is important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise to prevent weight gain in other areas of your body.
How many sessions are required?
Some people will be satisfied with the results after just one session. Other people may require 2 or 3 total sessions. Each treatment is spaced 6-8 weeks apart.
